It’s all about the books

  There are usually patterns to the type of work that comes in through Messagelab’s door. One month we were working solely for clients in the Higher Education sector for example, and we had a serious science binge earlier in the year.


  The Non-Stop Story Collective launched nearly a year ago, in January 2013. The idea was for as many writers as possible to contribute to an ongoing story throughout the year – a literary journey into the unknown. I wondered how writers would influence each other, and if multiple voices could come together.

The Marmite of punctuation

  Known in the printing world as a gasper, screamer, startler or dog’s cock, the exclamation mark is the Marmite of punctuation. F. Scott Fitzgerald famously advised: “Cut out all those exclamation points. An exclamation point is like laughing at your own jokes.”
